TODAY IN SEATTLE-AREA HISTORY, Feb 8

And, our traffic has been miserable ever since . . .
In 1972, Seattle voters turn down a proposed third north-south highwaythrough the city, in addition to Interstate 5 and Highway 99. The highway would have cut through the Central District, Montlake neighborhood and Washington Park Arboretum. Voters also say no to a viaduct that would have linked Highway 520, I-5 and Highway 99 along the south shore of Lake Union.
