TODAY IN SEATTLE-AREA HISTORY, Mar 6

A young Seattle real-estate agent, Martin Johanson, and a group of friends begin serving meals to the homeless in 1921 in Pioneer Square, the start of the Millionair Club Charity. From its founding, the club has served millions of meals and found thousands of jobs for the unemployed. Johanson is executive director of the charity for 53 years, retiring when he is 86 years old. The club operates today in Belltown.
