West Seattle High School’s Amazing 2022 Season
In 2022 West Seattle High finished league play with an all-time best 15-1 record in District play, taking first place in the Seattle Metro league and going on to play in the WA State tournament for the first time since 2013. The Wildcats went on to finish fourth in State for the 3A Division, losing their final games to Mercer Island (who went on to place first, overall) and Mount Spokane. Of specific note in this special season for WS, pitcher Miles Gozstola broke the WA State strikeout record, previously held by , by dealing 115 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched and earning a place in the Washington State Top 20 Pitchers list. This, followed by 5-inning 3A state semi-final start, the Metro MVP had 6 Ks with no BBs, ending the season with 121 Ks (3 more than Cy Young-winner Blake Snell @ Shorewood in 2011).
It was truly an amazing performance and, with Bobby being a starting middle infielder for most of the season, we were proud to be part of it. It’s an experience we will never forget!
