TODAY IN SEATTLE-AREA HISTORY, Jan 25

A single-engine fighter plane crashes in 1942 into two Everett homes, with the pilot parachuting into Port Gardner Bay. A Navy officer at home sees the crash and seizes a boat to paddle out to the pilot, who is nearly unconscious from the cold water. No residents of the homes, at 1521 Grand Ave. and 1518 Rucker Ave., are injured. Wartime secrecy means information about the plane and its origins is not published.
