In 1852, the first contingent of the Denny party moves from Alki Point to the eastern shore of Elliott Bay, site of future downtown Seattle. Arthur Denny and his family are ill with malaria, and they remain on Alki Point for another month or so. By mid-April, most of the original Denny party moves to the Pioneer Square area. Charles Terryestablishes his New York Store, the first store in future King County.
