TODAY IN SEATTLE-AREA HISTORY, Feb 1

In 1900, the Seattle City Council approves pay raises for 235 city employees. Most workers receive an average of $5 a month more, with salaries from library page ($30/month) to police chief ($150/month). At that time, a three-room house cost about $3,750; a pair of shoes, 50 cents to $1.25; and eggs, 35 cents for two dozen.
